Electroencephalopgram (EEG) is a test commonly performed by neurologists, which detects electrical activity from the brain. During the test, patients will have small electrodes attached to their scalp. Electrodes do not transmit any sensations and there is no pain associated with this test.
During the recording, you may be asked to breathe deeply for a brief period of time (hyperventilation) and be exposed to flashing bright lights (photic stimulation).
EEG is one of the main diagnostic tests for epilepsy and commonly plays a role in diagnosing other brain disorders.
